Day 8 of Road Trip:
As all you amazing followers know, I am on a journey along the East Coast, starting at New Jersey and driving down to Florida where we ended up getting on the Norwegian Sun to enjoy some days in the Bahamas sun. Today our cruise ship takes us to the island named Great Stirrup Cay which is Norwegian’s private island. Since this is Norwegian’s private island, the food and drinks consumed on the island are free of charge, AWESOME. The island has Abaco Taco which is located on the beachfront cabana and there are several different types of tacos you can choose from as well as endless different drinks to try at the Bacardi Bar, Bertram’s Bar, or Patron Bar.

There are several excursions you can purchase on the island such as snorkeling, swimming with the pigs, paddle boarding, jet skiing, parasailing, kayaking, stingray encounter, marine life encounter, or simply relax in a cabana. As much as I would have LOVED to swim with some pigs, we opted for snorkeling because snorkeling in crystal clear waters seems to be a once in a life time experience. The snorkeling experience allows you to explore the underwater sculpture garden, you’re provided flippers, goggles and obviously a snorkel.

Since my boyfriend has a GoPro we were able to capture some of the stunning sculptures that are located underwater. We were also able to capture the variety of fish that we swam near, a sea turtle as well as a stingray that I was slightly afraid of. Since we purchased the snorkeling package there was no time limit and we were able to do it for the entire day and come in and out of the water as much as we wanted. We spent a couple of hours exploring in the morning, grabbed some lunch at Abaco Taco, a couple of drinks and went back to snorkeling in the afternoon. We were having such a blast until a storm rolled in and nearly scared us to death. I say the storm nearly caused us death and mean that quite literally because as we snorkeled, a massive lightening strike came down near the water causing extreme chaos and forcing everyone to run back to shore to hide under Abaco Taco. I can honestly say that I have never heard a lightening strike and thunder clap quite as loud as that one, the memory is very vivid in my mind.

As the storm came pounding in, quite literally because these raindrops were MASSIVE, people scurried back to the cruise ship but others, such as myself and boyfriend, just found temporary cover under a pavilion or cabana. This storm gave us the opportunity to get some more free drinks and talk to others that were on the ship. We actually spoke to an elderly couple that has done over 100 cruises, they told us their favorite cruises and that they had already planned their next cruise. What a dream to have another cruise planned while on a cruise.

After roughly 30-40 minutes the storm was over and it was safe to return to the water. The sun appeared once again, we continued our snorkeling and tanning before returning to the ship to enjoy our last night on board. We attended the pool party and by attend I mean we watched from a higher deck, entered some free jewelry raffles that we didn’t win and danced around the ship. Overall, we absolutely loved our experience with Norwegian Sun and we cannot wait to to attend another cruise.

That carved skull underwater there looks the type of skulls that were carved by the Aztecs.
