Get To Know: Catherine

Everyone, welcome to another Get To Know post. In case you aren’t familiar, this series all started because I wanted to get to know my fellow bloggers a bit better so one day I decided I would start to interview them. Today, I have chosen to interview Catherine Cathdean.

The Basics:

Name: Catherine
Nickname(s): Cath, Catheeeee, or Muuuuuuuum!
Occupation: On-line Training Content Manager
Nationality: British
Country Currently Living In: England

Let’s Get A Little Personal

Favorites:
Favorite hobby? Gardening and/or baking, depends on the weather. I’m not keen on gardening in the rain!
Favorite time of day? Morning. Like Cinderella’s carriage, I turn into a pumpkin later in the evening.
Favorite vacation you’ve been on? Two weeks in Orlando with tickets to Disney and Universal Studios parks. I love roller coasters. I am also a mad Harry Potter fan. I had to be dragged out of Diagon Alley by a foot-sore family.
Favorite thing to do on a rainy day? I love baking on a horrible day. The smell of cakes or bread brings a smile to my face, as well as a swarm of family into the kitchen.
Favorite method of relaxation? A candle-lit bath, glass of wine and music.
This or That:
Coffee or tea? Both. Coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon. How very British.
Gardening or baking? Argh. Don’t make me choose. Both. If I could have an outside oven in my garden I could do both at the same time.
Casual or formal? Casual every time. I do like to dress up now and again but don’t often get the opportunity.
City or country? Country. I love wide open spaces with a far horizon.
Ocean or lake? Ocean. There’s nothing better for a piscean than being close to the sea/ocean.
Summer or winter? Decisions, decisions. I like both. I love the long summer nights where it never gets totally dark, but I also love the dark nights of winter, candles and an open fire.
Film or reading? Reading. I get to use my own imagination and escape normal life for a while.
Simple Questions:
Why did you start blogging? I needed some creative outlet that I’d not tried before and I’ve kept a journal for years. I thought I’d give blogging a go.
What are your blogging goals? If I can remove some of the fear surrounding perimenopausal changes from just one woman my goal will be achieved. We have access to education for growing up, having babies but nothing to prepare us for the weird and sometimes scary changes that happen. Less fear and more fun please!
What place could you constantly visit and never be sick of? Cornwall. I love the entire county. The rugged coastlines, rolling countryside and the surf conditions on the northern beaches.
What is a typical day in the life of Cath like? Usually I try to do some affirmations before I reluctantly throw back the bedcovers and get on with the day. My daily commute involves walking downstairs (or hobbling, if I’ve overdone exercise the previous day) to my office and logging into my work network. Meanwhile, fresh coffee is brewing while I make up some Bircher museli or a veggie smoothie. One of these days I’d like to be organized enough to have made these breakfast items the night before! My golden labrador puppy invariably bounces out of her crate, eager for cuddles and breakfast all at the same time. By lunchtime I am so ready for some fresh air and so is the pup. We are lucky enough to live in the countryside so I can let her off the leash to run off some energy and I can recharge my batteries at the same time. After work I try to fit in some core workouts or a yoga session before I head out with the pup again. She never seems to run out of energy. If anyone knows where the off switch is, please let me know. Even a paws (sorry, I couldn’t resist) button would be good. Evenings vary depending on how many family members are at home. If it’s just me, I make a super-fast supper and read or watch a film. If everyone is home, I’ll dig out a recipe book and experiment. I have a forgiving family!!

Let’s Get A Deeper Connection

If you were told to describe yourself in 5 words, which 5 words would you choose? Oh heck. This is the bit where I have to really think hard. Ok, in no particular order, kind, quirky, loyal, fun-loving, adventurous.
How would your closest friend describe you? I texted her this question. Here’s her response. Loving, with a side order of utterly bonkers at times.
What is the best quote you’ve ever encountered? My favourite quote is this – The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it is open.
What is your greatest accomplishment? Apart from my kids and hubby, I think the thing I am most proud of is going through psychotherapy, dealing with traumas from my past, and finding I am happy being me, just as I am.
What makes you happy? My kids and hubby. I would add my puppy but she is going through the teenage years just now. She might make the list in a couple of years time! Walking in the countryside with hubby. Growing plants from seed. I’m always amazed when they turn into real plants. Baking bread and eating it. Oh, I nearly forgot, my Friday craft gin and tonic.
Catherine, I loved your answers and I loved getting to know you better! I love that you have a hyper puppy because I can so relate to that and I know the struggle of getting a workout done without a puppy wanting to sit on your yoga mat with you! I love how passionate you are about your work and about your family. I really really enjoyed that quote you shared as well. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to do this interview, I greatly appreciate it and I loved your responses!
I think we all can learn a thing or two from Catherine, so why not go on over to her blog and give her a massive follow! Go, Go, Go!!!!
