Get To Know: Christy

Welcome back to everyone who has been to my blog and welcome to those who have never been here until now! Today’s post is a Get To Know post. As most of you know, I recently asked for people that were interested in this series to email me. Luckily for me, I received way more emails than expected and now I am taking up a lot of time in a day to come up with questions and email people back. Please be patient, I will reply to you and I will schedule your post eventually…this will definitely be moving into the month of September, perhaps October at the rate I’m going!

Anyway, no more business talk…let’s talk about amazing guest today which is Christy! Christy has a blog titled Mom Starting Over where she shares her life with two kids. Christy has opted to change careers while not only juggling two kids but also while blogging! Is she superwoman?! It seems like it, let’s get to know her a bit better.

The Basics:

Name: Christy
Nickname(s): none
Occupation: CNA (certified nurse’s aide)
Nationality: US
Country Currently Living In: US

Let’s Get A Little Personal

Favorites:

Favorite way to spend a day off of work?
A day off work? What’s that? But hiking, running or drawing/painting depending on my mood.
Favorite time of day?
Early morning, when it’s quiet and the birds are just starting. It’s peaceful.
Favorite quote?
“Fairy tales do not tell children that dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children that dragons can be killed.” -G.K.Chesterton
Favorite breakfast meal?
Pancakes or scrambled eggs. Or both together.
Favorite place you’ve traveled to?
England but I haven’t been to a whole lot of places. I think I may have been British in a past life though because I really did love England. I still need to see Ireland and Scotland though.

This or that:

Makeup or no makeup? It depends on the day. I love doing crazy things with my makeup but it’s not usually work appropriate, so often I just go without or very little like a CC Cream and some blush.
TV shows or movies? Depends on the tv show or movie. I have some favorite tv shows – Star Trek, Doctor Who, Criminal Minds and NCIS. I also like watching old 70’s tv like Emergency and CHiPs but most tv I’m kind of like eh, I’ll see it when it gets to Netflix. I have a deep love for Disney, Pixar, Kevin Smith and since I’m a geek I’ll always go for a geeky movie. I watch a lot of documentaries too.
Going out or staying in? Usually staying in. I’m old now. I used to go out a lot more.
Baking or cooking? Baking. It doesn’t require as much constant attention. And it’s typically yummier.
Magazines or books? That’s easy. Books. I have subscriptions to Running mags and Backpacking mags but that’s it. I love a good book and I have a long, long list.
Sweet or savory? Both are good.

Simple Questions:

When did you start blogging? In February, I think.
Why did you start blogging? I tried vlogging but it wasn’t working for me. So I decided to see if I could do better with written words.
What are your hobbies? Running, hiking, reading, writing, painting and drawing
What are you looking forward to? GRADUATION!
If you have some alone time, how do you prefer to spend it? I like to write and I have an original story and a fan fiction that I’m working on. I also like to watch whatever I have up on Netflix or Amazon Prime.
What would you like to do more of? Travel. Once I finish school and can get a better paying job, I intend to get back to that. I have a long list of places that I want to see.

Let’s Get A Deeper Connection

Okay, so I saw you’re a mom, student nurse and planner….HOW DO YOU DO IT ALL?!
Well, the planning part helps a lot. That’s how I keep track of everything that I have to do. If it’s not written down, it doesn’t get done. And especially when I’m in school, I plan in detail. I schedule time for everything and there’s often very little free time. Reading tends to get pushed to the side when school is in.
How would you describe yourself?
I am a recovering perfectionist. I’m also a geek, having loved Batman for a long way back. I also discovered fantasy novels when I was probably thirteen and I loved the worlds within them. That ultimately led me to things like Dungeons and Dragons and it’s how I found people like me who were into geeky things. I love to be outside, unless it’s really humid (which can be hard in the south, in the summer). I can be really adventurous too although I’ve gotten into moments where I was petrified before I did something (rollercoasters come to mind here) but generally really glad I did afterwards.
What have you learned recently about yourself?
That I am more capable than I think I am. I am definitely my own worst critic and can cut myself to pieces over things that nobody else ever saw as a big deal. This has been a huge issue for me in my nursing clinical because my instructors don’t see me as doing horribly. I have been working on using the voice I use with my classmates inside my head.
What are your life goals?
Well, step one is to graduate from nursing school in May. I’d like to work in a trauma hospital, in emergency medicine because I thrive on chaos. I function better when I have no time to overthink. Since this is my second career, I am perfectly happy to think that this career will be my last in some form. Then I have a huge list of things that I still want to try, do or see. I’m working on the list but it’s slow right now, so I’m looking forward to picking that up again.
What advice would you give to the younger generation?
Listen to your heart or gut or instincts, whatever you want to call it. Do the things that you think you can’t do. I look back at when I was in college and I wasted so much time trying to be the perfect person for everyone else that I never gave a thought to what I wanted to do. Turns out that once you’re in the real world, what you want to do is really important or else you’ll be miserable.
Christy, I think so many people can learn from you from your experiences of trying to be perfect and eventually doing what you love to want. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy day to complete this interview. I loved getting to know you more and absolutely loved your answers. Everyone should do themselves a favor and go on over to Christy’s blog to give her a follow!
