You love it so I bring more and more for you, that’s right, I’m talking about my Get To Know series! Today’s special and amazing guest is Kirsty form Unseen Beauty.
The Basics:
Name: Kirsty
Nickname(s): Miss Mango – because I love mangos and any kind of mango products
Occupation: private English teacher for adults
Nationality: British
Country Currently Living In: the UK
Let’s Get a Little Personal:
Favorites:
Favorite makeup brand?
Ooh that’s hard. My make-up collection is a mixture of high-end and high street make-up brands. I love to try new things out for my blog, so I’d rather get a range of different brands than the whole collection in one brand. Also, as I’m blind and can’t identify things by colour, it makes it easier if I have a lot of different products that can be easily identified by touch.
Favorite time of day?
I’m a night owl. I always have been, from as far back as I can remember. As a child I used to read in bed, long after my grandparents thought I had gone to sleep! I’m not a fan of mornings and I need 2 or 3 cups of coffee before I really function properly.
Favorite thing to do on a lazy Sunday?
Spend time with my boyfriend, read, maybe a bit of online shopping, Netflicks, and a long soak in the bath with a pampering routine afterwards!
Favorite quote?
“If you try, you might fail. If you don’t try, you’ve already failed.” I don’t know who said it though.
Favorite blog post you’ve written?
Well, the most popular one was this one about how someone who can’t see does their eye make-up; I guess it’s something most people don’t think or write about! Check it out here. My favourite experience though was the one I wrote about in my walking with wolves post; it was such a fascinating experience to be able to get close up to the wolves and learn about them.
This or that:
Summer or winter?
I guess summer, because it’s good to get the summer dresses out and spend more time outside. I don’t like to lie in the sun for hours though.
Rain or shine?
Do some people really say rain?! I love the sunshine, but if I’m indoors and I don’t have to go anywhere, I like to listen to the rain as well.
Day or night?
The night owl will have to say night!
Dogs or cats?
Oh dogs 200%! I love dogs and am allergic to cats, so that’s an easy one. My favourite breed of dog is the golden retriever.
Simple Questions:
When did you start blogging?
Well actually I have two blogs. The first one is part of my business and it’s to help adults who are learning English, I started that blog around 2 years ago. Unseen Beauty is more of a hobby, and I started that in January this year.
Why did you start blogging?
Originally it was because people had a lot of similar questions and I thought it would be nice to give people who are learning English a place to come where they could read about tips for language learning etc. I started my second blog because there are things that I want to write about that don’t really fit on the language blog. I wanted a place where I could talk about the places I’ve been and all the beauty, skincare and make-up products that I’m trying, and to swap ideas and get recommendations from other people who are interested in the same things.
How often do you blog?
Usually once or twice a week.
What are your favorite blog posts to write?
I quite like the favourites and empties posts, because this is the type that I like to read as well. I also enjoy telling people about where we’ve been on our travels.
What is your favorite thing about blogging?
It gives you the chance to get to know interesting people all over the world!
Who inspires you to blog?
People who aren’t scared to be a bit different and to put their own stamp on their site, rather than trying to follow what everyone else is doing. I think, particularly when people are starting out, there can be a lot of pressure to do things in a certain way, or produce a certain type of content – but for me, the coolest people are those who aren’t afraid to be themselves!
If you could move anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I thought about moving to Germany for a while, but to be honest, I quite like it here in the UK!
Let’s Get a Deeper Connection:
What advice would you give your younger self?
The things that keep you up worrying at night won’t mean anything in a few weeks or months. Drink more water and yes, your body does actually need sleep, so don’t make it run on 4 hours each night! Mr. Right is out there, as is your dream job! You just have to find them! Sometimes finished is better than perfect, if waiting for perfection is preventing you from moving forward!
What advice would you give the younger generation in general?
That makes me feel old lol! Don’t give up on your dreams! Sometimes things don’t work out as you plan, or as you think they will, but if you have an idea about what you want to do, go for it! If you don’t have an idea, think about hat you’re good at and what makes you happy! Try to make sure that whatever else is going on, you make some time for these things. Don’t be so busy that you don’t make time to relax or to see the people who are important to you!
Whom do you look up to?
Since I started working for myself, I’ve met a lot of really interesting people who are growing their own small businesses. People will tell you it’s easy being your own boss and being able to work when you want, but the truth is that although it’s fun, it takes a lot of commitment and hard work. I look up to people who don’t give up when things get tough, both in terms of setting up your own business, and in life in general!
What makes you unique?
Maybe my willingness to say what I think, even if that’s not the most popular thing to say! My visual impairment means I do things in a different way to most other people, but as long as the job gets done, I don’t think that matters. It has, however, made me a good problem-solver, because I have to look for new solutions to problems, and I think this can be a big asset.
How would you describe the perfect world?
Well, there are the general things, like a world where everyone has enough to eat and the opportunity to access education. A world where animals are treated fairly and we don’t exploit the planet’s natural resources. Then there are the things more personal to me – it would be a world where all websites are designed to be accessible, so that people who don’t use a mouse can use them. It’s really not difficult, but some sites, including large companies, don’t bother to do it.
Kirsty, it was such a pleasure to get to know you better and learn so much about you. Thank you so very much for taking the time out of your day to complete this interview. As for everyone else, what are you waiting for?! It’s clear to see that Kirsty is a fighter; despite being blind she has her own blog, she works, she functions as a majority of people do! She’s truly an inspiration. Everyone quickly go follow Kirsty because you will not regret it!
How could I do this?! I love the idea!

Sometimes when you say what you think, you find out that everyone else was thinking the same thing – they just didn’t want to say it lol!
