As Told By A Substitute 007

First off, I want to say Im so happy that so many of you love this series and I am so glad that I am able to share my crazy substitute stories!

Hide & Seek:

This one is going to be very short and sweet. I was subbing at the high school, yes, the high school, when a student looked over at me and asked me if we could all play hide & seek. I said no.

Footsies:

The same high school student that asked to play hide & seek, later asked if we could all play footsies…again I said no.

Mistaken Student:

It could be my height or the fact I look young in general, but at the age of 23 I still get confused for a student at times. I’ve had several instances where I ring the buzzer of the school and they go “students enter through the other door” to which I reply “I’m a substitute” then face the camera and they go “Ohhhhh Bea, I’m so sorry didn’t recognize you for a second!” Other times, I’ve been in the classroom amongst the students and administration or security comes in and goes “wait there is no teacher in here?!” I wonder how much longer I’ll be confused for a high school student.

The Jordan Year:

Have you heard of that expression? “The Jordan Year” typically refers to the year that you are 23, which is my current age. I have had most of the school ask me how old I am because they think I look so young; after countless wrong guesses, they finally guess 23. Well, one time when I shook my head yes to 23, I overheard a student go “if she’s 23, I’m 23.” CRREEEEPPPPPYYY.

 

Well, I think now that we are all creeped out we can move onto better things! I hope you enjoyed this post and if you haven’t been reading my other As Told By A Substitute posts, than I think you really should because people have been responding greatly to them.

    1. Haha, sometimes I can’t believe these stories myself and I look back and laugh at how crazy they are ! I can’t believe you still get mistaken for a student though, especially at an elementary school, that is too great!! Good for you though because it means you’re looking flawless and young!   2. When I first started teaching it was at the college level, I was in my very early 30s and was told, many times, that I did not look old enough to be a college professor. Now when I take a class as a student I am often mistaken for the teacher! Enjoy it now, because one day everyone will be able to sense that you are comfortable in the classroom setting and you will be old enough for them to assume you are in charge! Stay young as long as you can!

  3. I love this!! I just finished my first year of teaching, and although I teach elementary school, I get a lot of funny comments, or accidentally overhear weird/interesting conversations, so I can relate to this series so much! A lot of my students always ask me for my age, and usually when I have them guess, they’ll be completely off, like “37” which is hilarious! xx

  4. What a fun post to read! After I graduated college I constantly had people asking why I wasn’t at school (I didn’t have traditional office hours yet) if I was out during a week day with my parents shopping or whatever. I had to explain I was done with school but everyone thought I was a high school student!
