Blogging Advice 006

Disclaimer: I’m not a professional blogger.

As you read in the disclaimer, I’m not a professional blogger, I’m only here to offer my advice because I’ve had several people contact me asking me for blogging advice. I’m totally unsure why people have chosen me for advice, but I’m more than happy to share whatever it is I’ve learned through my blogging journey. As you can tell by the title, this is my sixth post and therefore if you are just joining this series, you definitely have  a lot of reading to catch up on. Without further a do though, let’s get to some hopefully helpful advice.

Show Your Appreciation:

Showing appreciation is an act that we should do each and everyday whether it’s towards our family, friends or coworkers, we should remind someone that we are thankful for having them; likewise we should thank our followers. Have you reached an all time high when it comes to followers? Take the time out of your day to share with your followers that you are thankful for them following you and that you hope that they will continue to share the blogging journey with you. Have you been nominated for an award lately? Instead of just skipping out on the award and not doing it, do it, thank the blogger that has chosen you for the award/tag and then pick other bloggers that your really enjoy and think deserve to be recognized for what they do. Have you been getting a lot of comments from the same person? Perhaps really go out of your way to send them a message of kindness and thank them for what they do, maybe even write  a blog post about them so that your other followers can discover a new blog. There’s plenty of ways in which we can show appreciation for others, so why not spread the love and show how thankful we are for everything and everyone we have in our lives.

Answer People:

One thing that I’ve done since day one is ALWAYS answer people that have taken the time out of their day to comment on my posts; I don’t just copy and paste the same reply either. If someone has taken the extra step to actually write their words and feelings in my comment section, I most definitely feel the need to write back to them and not a simple message either. I make sure to personally address the person by name (if it’s clear what their name is). If the person writing in my comment section leaves a long comment, I make sure to read it and reply to nearly every part of their comment. Answering people back is just another way of showing your appreciation for them; they’ve taken the time to write to you so now you return by taking the time to write back to them. When replying to people make sure to show excitement and don’t just write the same “thanks” to everyone. I like to write back a few words, perhaps wish them a good day and even return the comment by going over to their blog and leaving one for them to read.

Pictures:

I don’t know about you but often times I grab a magazine and simply flip through the pictures before I read what exactly the article is able. Likewise, I think photos in blog posts are crucial! If you are baking something, show me what you are baking, maybe include step by step pictures and definitely include the final product. If you are reviewing a product, let me know what it looks like so I can find it on the shelves quickly instead of having to stand at the store reading everything. If you are talking about your magical trip somewhere, share pictures with me so I can see what exactly it was that you saw and loved.

Thank you so very much for coming by today and reading this post. Have these been helpful? Are you learning anything? Is there anything you’d like to share on blogging? Leave it all in the comment section below!

    1. Hmmmmm, that is actually a very good question! I have no idea, I suppose a writing expert, someone who has studied writing or as you said someone who makes money off of blogging because that would be considered their occupation. Very good question! Thanks for coming by and have a lovely day! x

      1. Hee. Just a thought. Or maybe like those fashion bloggers who are gearing up to attend fashion weeks and spin it off into a profession as critics. When I was covering fashion while working with a newspaper, I remember, how my fellow journalists from other papers and fashion magazines used to get riled up by fashion bloggers. But that is the power of blogging you realise – that it has created a niche for itself 😉

  1. It’s so fun reading these posts! I really adore your writing style, Bea, you have such a fun style that makes it seem like you’re talking right to us and being honest instead of saying what we want to hear. I really appreciate that.

  2. Good feedback. I like seeing short suggestions with some power behind them in your posts. Thank you.

I’m trying to be more engaging with pictures. I am not a photographer by any means, so it’s not something I think to do… snap a photo and add it to the post. I will search for posts, but then I worry about finding credit and citing it in the post. I put a lot of GIFs in posts these days when trying to be funny, and I note at the bottom it’s not my art!

    1. It’s good to give credit where it’s due! It’s also great to try photographing your own stuff just for the sake of it and because it will draw people into you as a person! Best of luck!! Thanks for coming by!

  4. Yes on the pictures for sure–I am such a picture skimmer, especially when I am short on time. If the pictures suck me in, I will usually read it then or go back to it later. Great advice all around. 🙂

  6. You’re right about answering comments and thanking people. I didn’t really realize this until recently. If I want people to comment then I have to do the same. I am now trying to do this daily, and I feel good when I read a lovely post and I share my thoughts about it. Likewise, it’s pretty cool to get response from followers and new bloggers who stumble across my blog. I really appreciate your blogging advice. As a relative newbie, I could use all the help I can get-so THANKS!
