Blogging Advice 004

Disclaimer: Don’t be fooled, I am not a blogging wizard.

That’s right, the disclaimer says it all, I’m not a blogging genius and I certainly don’t know everything about the blogging world, but whatever I have learned I would be more than happy to share.

Categories/Organize:

You all probably know this but under “Post Settings” there is a “Categories” option where you can organize your posts. Creating categories for your posts and blogs is very important because it helps the reader quickly find things! For example, if you have a lifestyle blog, such as myself, having different categories that separate things neatly on the blog help readers find specific content. So, if you are writing about fitness, food, fashion, make sure to have a category for each separate category of writing that you write about.

Work Together:

I imagine the screams and outcries right now from everyone that has hated group work in the past. Trust me, in school, I hated group work. I always prefer to do things on my own because this way I know things will not only get done, but they will get done RIGHT. With that being said, working together allows you to open doors to other new bloggers. If you work together you can get a shout out in a sense on someone else’s blog who may have different followers than you do and in doing this allows people to find out about you. A way to work together without it being so formal is by doing awards, awards allows you to share yourself but also share whoever nominated you and whoever you want to nominate. If you want a deeper connection and to work with someone more formally, perhaps contact them and set up an interview with them.

Collaboration Ideas:

  • Have someone write as guest on your blog (scary for those of us who are control freaks)
  • Interview other bloggers (a new series I’ve actually started myself)
  • Giveaways
  • Q&A
  • Product review (two people review the same product and give their individual review)

Share About Yourself:

This piece of advice gets a bit more personal and may not be for everyone. In this piece of advice I am asking that you open up to your audience in a way that you never have before. Share your real thoughts, share your childhood memories, share your life experiences. Share. Share. Share.

Hope you have found these pieces of advice a bit helpful, don’t forget to check out my other 3 posts on Blogging Advice!

    1. Ohhh no no no ! Don’t worry about doing it “wrong” at the end of the day, every blog is different and so long as you are true to who you are and you write what you love that is really all that matters! I hope you have a lovely day! x

      1. Of course I can help you out! So whenever you’re writing a post you could always write the person’s name and the select the text and go up to where it says “insert/edit link” on the blog post you’re writing, it looks like a little paperclip and is next to “. After you select that it will ask you to put their link so just copy and paste their link in the URL section and click add link then it should turn a blue color if it is done correctly! Then whenever you publish the work it will come up blue when people read it and people can click on it and go to that person’s page! Hope that helps 🙂

  1. I’ve only started blogging and I think what you said make so much sense. I’ll be keeping that in mind for sure! Aside from that I guess being more interactive is a great thing to do as well. Of course we would want more traffic on our sites but we can’t only expect to receive without giving. Progress is slow but I have very little expectation given others with large following has been doing this for years. To all my fellow baby bloggers out there, let’s not be disheartened :D! At the end of the day, what matters is if you are content and proud of what you produced!

    1. I completely agree with everything you’ve said! I’ve done similar posts to this one and in my very first one I think I mention that numbers don’t matter, obviously we want high numbers but at the end of the day if we are expressing what we enjoy and doing what we love that is what really matters! I wish you the best of luck on your blogging journey and I hope you have an excellent and happy day! x

  2. Thanks for the great suggestions! I had no idea how to utilize the categories. My daughter and I are true newbies, less than 2 months into the blogging world so any sort of advice is gold to us!
We have wondered about doing guest blogger posts but don’t know how that works either 😳 lol. Newbies, huh?

    1. Haha, I’ve actually never done guest blogging posts however I assume you just contact the person and give them a topic and ask them for their opinion on it for example if they could review a product, any product or if they could share themselves a bit perhaps!? I’m really not sure but at the end of the day, blogging your world, blogging is who you are so as long as you do and express your interests then you are becoming an awesome blogger! I have 3 more posts similar to this one if you’d like to check them out! Best of luck on your blogging journey! Have an excellent day! x

  3. Lol, thank you! Maybe we should just start with you and ask you for what you think is the best advice for new bloggers! Ha!
If nothing else, we are definitely going to “stay real, ” even with my weird sense of humor and sometimes even acknowledging my current “brain injury ” status lol!

    1. See, that’s what is so amazing about each individual blog, it’s all about what you can bring to the world so I love that you’re already sharing yourself and as you said “staying real.”!

    1. You’re very welcome ! Some people have contact pages or about pages on their blog, click around searching for it or simply ask them for their email in a comment section if they do not have one. Hope this helps!

  4. One question if you can help, How you keep a check on your favourite bloggers.

I am getting loads of followers, some are superb, I want to keep a track of them. Is there an easy way to do it.

Right now I know by name one of them. But the rest, if I stumbled upon on Reader can able to look at it.

    Any suggestion

    1. Typically I just follow people and as I go through my reader I stumble upon them or as you said I remember their name and search them, sadly I do not know any quick way to do this. I’m so very sorry !

  5. BeaFreitas,
I just read our 004 and I thank you for taking the time out to provide your words of advise even though you adamantly say you’re not an expert.

I particularly liked your words about collaboration. I’ll keep them in mind.

You mention “awards” but I don’t quite understand how one does awards. If you get a chance you might expand on that.

Also, at one point or another I’m going to have to learn about linking my blog to Twitter and such apps because my grandson said, “blogs are old hat,” meaning that blogging is not for a young guy like himself. So that’s a concern which I’ll have to tackle eventually–how to reach people younger than me. Right now I’m just trying to post things so I can manipulate them and learn in the process.

    1. Thank you so much for your comment. I’m glad you are enjoying this series and are finding it helpful. Typically awards are given to people through nominations and who ever nominates you should inform you that you have been nominated. An alternative to this is to create your own award with a specific theme whatever that theme may be. Some awards consist of just questions to get to know each other other awards are centered around the idea of spreading something whether that is knowledge, quotes, wisdom, positive thoughts or smiles. As for the sharing thing, if you are looking at your states, you can go to the “Configure” category on the left hand side of the screen and see “Sharing” here you are allowed to connect to other websites such as Twitter.

  6. Love your blogging advice–straightforward and practical. Had not thought of some of these. Nice to know that several of your commenters write about what interests them rather than adhere strictly to one theme.
