Blogging Advice 001

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way shape or form a professional blogger. I am not Zoella, Niomi Smart or Tanya Burr. (Although, being as great as they are at blogging would be amazing.)

So glad I got that disclaimer out of the way. I don’t consider myself a professional blogger or an expert what so ever. I’ve been blogging on this site for a little over a year so I’ve picked up a thing or two but an expert I certainly am not. Although, I am not at the top of the food chain when it comes to blogging, for some reason I have had bloggers ask me for blogging tips and advice. Again, advice from me?! I’m a no body in this blogging world. Nonetheless, I’ve complied some advice to share with you all.

Numbers Shnumbers:

I’m sure you’ve heard that time and time again (probably a bit more professional than “numbers shnumbers” but you catch my drift.) Don’t pay attention to the numbers. In the blogging world it’s so easy to get discouraged when you don’t see extremely high numbers. I remember my very first post as if it were yesterday; I posted it and I was constantly refreshing my browser eager for someone to take a look at it, like it, comment on it…I got nothing. How could I though? How I could I have possibly thought that that one simple Brunch post could sky rocket if I just had become my blog merely minutes prior. I had no followers, I was following no one and it was my very first post! Views, comments, likes, followers will come with time, the important thing to remember is that you’re blogging for yourself, for your hobby or for your career, you’re not blogging for the sake of achieving high numbers.

Be You:

Sell yourself and I don’t mean that in a prostitute kind of way. Sell yourself in terms of writing about what you like and what you’re interested in. Believe me, it’s clear as day when someone is writing something purely for the views or purely for the sake of others. When you’re writing something without love, without meaning and without passion, it comes off clear as day. Think back to school…remember that history paper you were dreading to write about? You were sitting there hours upon hours staring at a blank screen unknowing of where to begin? As you started to type you felt as though your fingers were being dragged along the keyboard ever so s-l-o-w-l-y. Hours went by and you only had a paragraph written? Once you’ve finally written your paper you print it out, re-read it and you see that there is no excitement in the writing, no PA-ZAZZ. That shows. That 100% shows in your writing. So if you are going to blog, make sure you’re blogging about what you’re interested in whether it’s fashion, makeup or food, write with the intention that your passion will shine through and that PA-ZAZZ will be seen all over your blog. (P.S. If you love history you probably can’t relate what so ever to what I have just written but maybe you can find something along those lines that will work with what I’m trying to say.)

Follow:

Follow the leader? No, no, I’m not telling you to be a follower and just write about what everyone else is writing about. What I am telling you is to follow others. If you want to get your blog out there then you have to find a way to spread your blog name and one quick way of doing that is by following others. Now, with following others, I’m definitely not saying to go and follow EVERYONE because you are more than likely not going to be interested in what everyone has to offer. For example, if you love and I mean LOVE plants and all things nature but hate makeup and fashion than you probably wouldn’t want a reader feed of makeup and fashion…my advice, skip out on the blogs you aren’t interested in but load up and follow the ones you are interested in. Obviously, if you are interested in many different things like DIY, food, makeup, fashion, nature than your reader feed will be very diverse and you’ll maybe have a lot more people to follow.

Alright, that’s all for toady. I hope this has helped, I will definitely be adding more advice but for today I think I’ve bombarded you with enough. I hope you enjoyed this post, please do let me know in the comment section below and don’t forget….I am NOT an expert on blogging.

      1. I don’t know where can I leave my comments. First, thank you for liking my previous post. I am also re-starting as a blogger and your post is a booster. I hope to learn more from you.

BTW, you sound like a pro. I think it takes guts and confidence. 🙂

  1. Great advice Bea!! You know what you’re talking about and I agree with every word. Of course people ask you for advice, you’re such an inspiration. I’m really glad to have met you and your blog. I’m sure many people think the same. Know that ♡

  2. Great advice! Especially the reminder to write about what one loves to write about and not just things you think will get “likes”, comments, and followers.

It’s been almost two months. I only have about 55 followers. Part of the reason is because I barely participate in any social networks (like Facebook). I know other newbies have hundreds of Facebook friends, who add to the WordPress follower numbers.

I have been doing a lot of reading of other people’s blogs, and following many. I also tend to follow the people that follow me because 1) It’s nice to reciprocate, and 2) If they like my stuff I usually like theirs. Also, I like the Community Pool and the Daily Post. I try to write posts based on the Daily Post word of the day, and then read other’s posts based on the word.

I try to tag and categorize effectively, but I’m wondering if there are other things I should do too. If you, or anyone else reading this has other ideas, I’d love to hear them. BeaFreitas, 2,320 followers is amazing!

    1. Thank you for that very lovely comment! I’m so glad that you feel comfortable enough to share so much! Blogging for nearly two months and already having 55 followers is an excellent accomplishment, as I said it’s not always about the numbers though. Honestly, I only recently started to grow, at two months I maybe had 20-30 followers, if that to be fair! But as I said, write what you love and your people will come. Write what you love and your passion will show! I have many of these blog advice posts coming in April so stay tuned for those, hopefully you find them helpful. I really do like the fact that you have shared some of your advice too, very kind of you. Thank you so much for coming by and have an excellent day!

      1. Thank you, BeaFreitas. I will continue to write what I love and am interested in. I had a conversation about that very topic with hubby yesterday. Both you and he shared the same answer. That makes me happy!

I’ll very much look forward to reading your upcoming posts.

  5. I don’t pay much attention to visits, subs etc but on the odd occasion I do see the amount of subs I have, I wish I had more. I have a few blogs (different topics) so there’s one that gets more attention as I have more information for it. My first blog I made which is really just random stuff is over 1,000 subs (don’t remember the amount or if it’s hit 2000 yet.

I just hope others will find my blogs. (I have a craft, beauty, Entertainment and Writing blog, and if it’s not against the rules you can check them out on zodiacimmortal.wordpress.com (scroll down to the bottom of the sidebar, the banners to visit are there)

  6. When I first started blogging…I was told it was important to have a theme because people expect you to pick an area of interest and stick with it. But I am not an organized person and I am all over the place like a kite in a strong wind. So my blog is a reflection of that. I tend to wander and people don’t seem to mind.

    1. Ohhhh I love that!!!! I’ve heard the whole theme too but I think you just have to go with your gut really and do something that represents you! I love that you’ve done your own thing, so great of you ! Thanks for coming by!

    1. Yes the bottom line is definitely to be yourself and have your own creative space! So long as you are happy with yourself and with your content that is all that matters. I’m glad that you enjoyed this and I hope you go ahead and read my other blog posts similar to this one because I do have a couple more! Thank you for coming by and good luck on your blogging journey! x

  9. Beautiful Bea, good advice. I have no idea what I’m doing with my blog. It was just intended to tell a story about a really weird, dysfunctional group of writers and runners who are trapped together like Huis Clos or Hotel California. Is that a longhair chihuahua?

    Peace be the Botendaddy
